Samuel Stayman of Palm Beach, Florida, retired portfolio manager, investor and bridge author. Graduate of Dartmouth College and Tuck Business College. In the June 1945 issue ofThe Bridge Worldhe described a convention, invented by his then partner George Rapee, which subsequently became known as theStayman convention. He made other contributions to the theory of the game, includingNamyats(Stayman spelled backwards).
