Trial lawyer. The most famous non-playing captain in the history of bridge, leading the BLUE TEAM in record series of nine World Championship wins from 1957 – 1966, and in 5 European Championship wins in the period 1951 – 1959. He was ceolebrated for his tough team discipline, and was said to check that team members went to bed early and on their own. Players who violated his rules were benched, even when it hurt the team.
