John Swanson, age 67, resides in Southern California, with his wife where they now operate a paper collectibles business (mostly vintage picture postcards), selling at weekend trade shows and on the Internet (eBay). Previously he was a computer programmer for most of his adult life, with a couple of stints of professional bridge.

His achievements at the bridge table include playing on the ACBL Bermuda Bowl team in 1971, 1973, 1975, finally winning in 1977. He won 9 straight playoff matches of 128 boards or more to qualify for these events.

He wrote a book about the strange (and normal) things which occurred during the trials and Bermuda Bowl events when he was playing in the 1970’s, "Inside the Bermuda Bowl". He has played only sporadic competitive bridge in the past 25 years. He says, "The BBO presentation of global bridge events is almost magical and I take great pleasure in being part of it".
