Jeremy was born in 1951 in
North London . He started playing
bridge at school and entered the
London School 's League(80+ teams
in those days and run by Maureen
Hiron). In the second year his
school team won the league when
the auction at his team mates
table was 2H(weak) by East all
pass which made and at his table,
without interruption, the auction
by North South went 1D 1NT 2D 2NT
3D 3NT. That made for no very
good reason and left him with a
reputation for bidding 3NT with
more regularity than some
players, so much so that one of
his first presents from his wife,
Heather, was a 3NT bidding card
enclosed in a frame!
First duplicate, first local
point and first congress achieved
playing with his father. An early
congress saw him playing with a
school partner against Omar
Sharif. This would have been a
pleasurable occasion were it not
for the fact that partner's
father who was watching and was
an occasional solo player thought
it appropriate to teach Omar's
partner (a leading French
international) some of the finer
points of bridge.
Most successful partnership
was with Ian Pagan which
culminated in winning the trials
and getting 3 Camrose Caps.
Currently playing with Keith
Bennett and hoping for some more
caps! Jeremy's team, which also
includes Heather and Rob Cliffe
keep winning Stage 2 of the
trials and falling at the final
fence. Winner of lots of domestic
trophies including the Hubert
Phillips and the Grand Masters,
twice.
Involved in some bridge
administration and is currently a
member of the Laws and Ethics
Committee and also a regular
Appeals Chairman. Jeremy also
writes a regular column for
English Bridge and is a member of
the editorial board.
